Winners at tomorrow’s
premier Scottish business awards ceremony will be picking up something
particularly special this year, thanks to the collaborative creativity
of two Scottish design businesses.
Little
Ironies, the Dundee-based metalwork design specialists, have joined
forces with Fife-based sculptors SilverSculpture to create brand
new trophies for the Scotland PLC Awards 2005 (due to be announced
on Wednesday 2 March). The two businesses have been commissioned
by the organisers of the Awards, Scottish Business Insider.
The
trophies take the form of a stainless steel disc incised with the
Scotland PLC awards logo, mounted on a Black American Walnut base,
using a mild steel bracket indicative of a traditional Globe. The
design symbolises the impact that successful Scottish PLCs are making
in the wider global market.
For
Joanne Moody of Little Ironies, the commission to create the trophies
in collaboration with SilverSculpture’s Gordon Lochhead is
a welcome endorsement of her creative credentials only two years
after founding her business.
Little
Ironies was developed in the Embreonix graduate incubator unit at
Abertay University in Dundee, where Joanne spent a year studying
a postgraduate certificate in entrepreneurship and setting up her
business. She now runs Little Ironies from a permanent base in Broughty
Ferry.
Joanne
said: “My time spent at Abertay University enabled me to set
down firm foundations for my business, which have proved invaluable.
Over the last two years, Little Ironies’ portfolio has expanded
to offer a diverse range of commissioned and limited edition works.
We now attract orders from clients all across Scotland. This latest
commission for the Scotland PLC Awards really is the ultimate accolade
of our achievements so far.”
Gordon
Lochhead has a longer track record, having established SilverScultpure
in 1979, and moved to converted farm buildings near St Andrews in
Fife in 1993.
Gordon
said: “This trophy is another good example of how a collaboration
between designers and a good client can really put sculpture to
work, creating an iconic object which will act as an emblem for
the prestigious Scottish PLC Awards in the future”
Little
Ironies and Silversculpture have previously created trophies for
the Scottish Sports Sponsorship Awards 2004, and the design has
been re-ordered for this year’s awards.
